Development and implementation of efficient environmental and social management system (ESMS) in mining & metals company

A robust Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) in the mining and metals industry plays a crucial role in ensuring business sustainability. It helps companies comply with environmental and social laws and standards, reducing the risk of legal consequences and fines Additionally, efficient ESMS allows for the identification and mitigation of environmental and social risks, protecting the company's reputation and preventing potential crises and money losses.

An effective environmental and social management system also enhances engagement with stakeholders, including local communities, government bodies, and investors, demonstrating a commitment to responsible practices and strengthening the company's competitiveness in the market. That’s why having a robust ESMS is considered as the cornerstone requirement of many international E&S standards widely applied by investors and other stakeholders when evaluating the mining company’s environmental and social performance.

The presentation will explore key requirements and stakeholder expectations for ESMS in mining, key benefits and challenges for successful implementation and in the end the audience will get a simple but useful questionnaire to make a self-assessment of it’s ESMS maturity level.
